Born in London and raised near Kings Cross and Camden, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges, resilience, and rich culture of the British Bengali community. The Drummond Street Boys series is rooted in my own lived experience—but it is also a collective story. I have spent years speaking with friends, neighbours, and community members across Camden and Islington, gathering their memories and perspectives.Their voices and stories are woven throughout the novels, allowing me to create fiction that is authentic, nuanced, and true to the community’s spirit. This collaborative approach ensures the books reflect not just my journey, but the shared history and hopes of many British Bengalis who grew up during difficult times in London.
Bringing Untold Stories to Light
My mission is to give voice to the unheard stories of British Bengali families—stories of hardship, hope, and survival in the face of racism and adversity in 1990s London. Through Drummond Street Boys, I aim to foster understanding, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the strength and diversity of our community.By actively engaging local people and incorporating their lived experiences, these novels serve as both a work of fiction and a record of collective memory—helping to build empathy, pride, and greater cultural awareness.
